Human-First Eating Disorder Therapist Courtney Fazli, LMFT

Eating disorder therapist Courtney Fazli

Southern California eating disorder therapist Courtney Fazli, LMFT draws on her experience growing up in looks-obsessed Los Angeles to help clients heal their relationships with food and their bodies. The Pepperdine University graduate quickly pivoted from her plans to pursue a Ph.D. when she realized getting to know research participants was her favorite part of working in a UCLA lab.

Her investment in clients’ stories and growth led her to love working in the eating disorder field. “I felt an immediate connection when I walked through the doors of a residential eating disorder treatment space.”

Courtney Fazli, LMFT Therapy Style

Courtney works with teens and adults struggling with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, trauma, body image issues, relational issues, life transitions, self-harm, perfectionism, anxiety, and depression. Her treatment methods include DBT, CBT, Gestalt, attachment style, depth psychology, and trauma-informed modalities.

Courtney is a human-first therapist who believes her clients are the experts of their own lives. She encourages laughter in therapy sessions. “Humor can be a healing bridge from living in avoidance to sitting with our feelings instead.”

In her free time, Courtney enjoys reading books, walking her chocolate lab, driving far distances to try new restaurants, going to Universal Studio or Disneyland, hiking, making matcha lattes, trying to convince herself to learn a new language, and singing loudly off-key.

“We are social creatures and were never meant to do this life alone, which is why it feels so good to connect with others. I wish more people would listen to that intuitive inner voice that encourages us to reach out, because that is where we find healing change.”

Is Courtney the Right Eating Disorder Therapist for You?

Courtney is here to support your healing journey and provide you with opportunities to try something different. Her clients often come to her with a similar driving issue: They have been using disordered eating behaviors to soothe themselves when they feel uncared for or unsupported by those around them. She helps get to the root of this pain and challenges the negative beliefs clients have about themselves.

You’ll know Courtney is the right eating disorder therapist for you if you feel you can show up authentically in therapy sessions. She wants clients to be their full, true selves. “Sometimes therapy can be the first time people feel genuinely seen and accepted, and this shift can have a ripple effect on how we decide we want to keep treating ourselves.”

Courtney believes clients should be engaged in the conversations they have with her, even outside of the hour they spend together in session.

“You know your therapist is good when you’re just living your life and stopping to make mental notes to share something with your therapist at your next session, whether it's a success or something more vulnerable.”

When to Get an Eating Disorder Therapist

Courtney believes therapy should be a part of regular health routines. It isn’t necessarily just for when you are in crisis. “Good mental health should be as normalized as good hygiene.”
