How Much Does Eating Disorder Care Cost?

Is eating disorder treatment worth it?

After seeing our rates, you might be thinking to yourself, “I had no idea eating disorder therapy or nutrition counseling would cost that much” or “I can’t afford to work with a Kindful Body clinician.” We get it; therapy and nutrition counseling can seem expensive. That’s why we’d like to explain why our fees are structured as they are and how we help you get reimbursed by your health insurance provider.

Finding the right eating disorder specialist

Not all therapists and dietitians are the same or have the same level of experience or training. At Kindful Body every one of our clinicians has a graduate degree plus additional years of clinical experience working with eating and body image issues as well as other mental health conditions. They have all worked at eating disorder treatment centers and are knowledgeable on how to help with a wide range of presenting concerns. All Kindful Body specialists have also taken advanced trainings in the latest eating disorder therapeutic and dietetic approaches to help you reach your recovery goals.

Kindful Body is selective about the clinicians we work with. When you choose Kindful Body, you are getting one-on-one attention from one of these highly skilled eating disorder specialists.

Why you should work with an eating disorder expert

Maybe you’ve been to a counselor in the past to work on your struggles with eating, food, and body image; maybe you didn’t get the support you needed. We hear this time and time again from clients who have tried working with another therapist or dietitian not trained in treating eating disorders. They often express not feeling comfortable opening up about their eating and body image struggles or not feeling fully understood because they felt their therapist or dietitian didn’t get it.

Many clients have also shared how harm was done when their restriction, food rules, and over-exercise was praised as “healthy.” Or they were encouraged to go on a diet or watch what they eat. Or they felt their body was judged as good or bad. These are the last things you need to hear if you have an eating disorder. This is why it’s important to work with someone who is knowledgeable about your struggles.

Eating disorders are complex. When you work with a Kindful Body clinician, you are not only getting an individual specialist, you are gaining access to a team of experienced, compassionate, trauma-informed eating disorder therapists and dietitians to support you on your healing journey. Our team meets weekly to make sure you are getting the best care possible.

Can I use my health insurance?

Even when you know you are worth getting care and you’re ready to start this journey, you still may not have the funds available to afford weekly sessions at Kindful Body. Using out-of-network health benefits through your insurance company may be an option. During your 15-minute free consultation, our Client Care Coordinator can check your benefits and tell you what your true out-of-pocket costs will be, including:

  • Out-of-network coverage for the services we provide

  • Your deductible for out-of-network services

  • The remaining amount of your out-of-network deductible (year to date)

  • The percentage that the insurance company reimburses, after the deductible has been met

To make it easier to file insurance claims, Kindful Body has partnered with Float to submit your claims for out-of-network health insurance reimbursement. To find out more, please contact our Client Care Coordinator.

Whether you decide to work with Kindful Body or not, we are elated that you are making your recovery and healing a priority. You are worth the investment in yourself. Your mental and physical health, your relationships, your fulfillment in life are worth the investment. Take a moment and let that sink in. You are worth it.
