Somatic IFS: Restoring Embodied Connection to Come Home to Ourselves
Discover the transformative power of Somatic Internal Family Systems (IFS) as developed by Susan McConnell, MA, CHT in our immersive 5-day retreat, designed to guide you on a profound journey of embodied connection, self-discovery and healing. This unique retreat focuses on the intersection of IFS and embodiment practices to address the profound impact of shame and trauma on our lives.
Our Parts Keep the Score
Shame Keeps Trauma Traumatic
Within each of us resides a complex system of parts or aspects of ourselves. Our parts can become burdened with extreme ideas, emotions, beliefs, sensations and energies from traumatic or devaluing experiences. Burdens are the constraining meaning our parts give their experiences, such as, “something bad happened to me, and therefore I am bad.” So we take on the burden of shame.
Shame has an uncanny ability to perpetuate the pain of trauma. When unattended, burdens of shame become the veil through which we see ourselves and the world and can continue to impact our lives negatively. It often holds us hostage in a cycle of self-blame and isolation, making it challenging to find the path to healing and Self-compassion. Attending to our burdened parts from our embodied Self energy is essential for true healing.
In this 5 day retreat, you will:
#1 Explore the Foundations of Somatic IFS
Delve into the 5 practices of Somatic IFS, an integrative and highly effective approach to healing. Learn how to create a safe and welcoming space within yourself where healing can begin.
You will work with your inner world, exploring the roles of:
Your Inner Shamers – These parts often try to protect us from potential harm and inadvertently perpetuate criticism and therefore shame towards ourselves and others.
Your Shameless Parts – These reactive parts respond to our inhibited and controlling inner shamers and are experts at diverting our attention away from pain and discomfort. Relationally parts hurt others in the way we have been hurt.
Vulnerable Parts that Hold Shame – These exiled parts hold core wounds and shame often is what keeps them hidden and stuck in the past.
#2 Uncover the Roots of Shame
Examine the sources of your shame and how they intersect with trauma. Develop an understanding of how burdens of shame can be released and transformed through gentle, somatic practices.
#3 Discover the Wisdom of Your Inner System of Parts
Through guided exercises and embodiment practices, you will develop a deep understanding of your inner system of parts and their roles in your life.
#4 Integrate Embodiment Practices
Experience the power of embodiment by connecting with your Self energy. Somatic practices can help you release burdens of shame, trauma, and emotional blockages, paving the way for holistic healing.
#5 Heal the Illusion of Separateness
As you progress through the retreat, you will likely discover the interconnectedness of your inner world and the broader web of life. This realization may enable you to release the illusion of separateness and foster a sense of wholeness and belonging.
