We have some exciting news to share as we step into 2020. We are now officially an online group practice!

This means that we will be able to serve individuals in need whether they are near or far, starting with those living in California and expanding as we see our clients’ needs expand.

Accessible treatment for Californians struggling with disordered eating and body shame

Eating disorders are generally misunderstood by most people, and this misinformation about eating disorders creates barriers to diagnosis and treatment. At the same time, due to the introduction of Binge Eating Disorder to the DMS-V, we’re seeing an increase in individuals who are diagnosed with, and seeking treatment for, eating disorders.

Many people suffering from an eating disorder struggle to find support and only 20 percent of those with an eating disorder actually get treatment. This number is particularly worrisome because eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental health diagnosis.

Many people are not able to find the help they need due to a lack of qualified eating disorder clinicians as well as time and scheduling restraints. At Kindful Body we set out to change this and make treatment accessible to Californians struggling with disordered eating and body shame by expanding our practice and offering online eating disorder therapy. This way, we can give more people an option for support that fits with their lifestyle. And because we are using the latest telemental health HIPAA-compliant technology, we are able to provide safe, confidential sessions at a more affordable cost.

Recovery is a process of self-discovery, befriending yourself, and reclaiming your sense of self and your life. Full recovery is possible.

Kindful Body works with adults and older adolescents looking to heal from disordered eating, body shame, trauma, and anxiety to deepen their relationship with themselves and others so they can live the lives they desire.

We are pleased to offer treatment for the full range of restrictive to compulsive disordered eating issues including:

  • Binge eating disorder

  • Bulimia nervosa

  • Anorexia nervosa

  • Orthorexia

  • Compulsive overeating

  • Yo-yo dieting (keto, cleanses, intermittent fasting)

  • Atypical anorexia and bulimia

We also work on the compensatory and compulsive behaviors that are frequently associated with eating disorders, such as excessive exercise or anorexia athletica and body image issues, as well as underlying issues including trauma, shame, anxiety, low self-esteem and perfectionism.

When you work with us, you will not only have the support of our experienced team, but also from an entire network of qualified eating disorder professionals ready to help you through a successful recovery process. Eating disorders affect every aspect of a person’s life and tragically have the highest mortality rate of any mental health illness, which is why we collaborate with other outpatient providers, including dietitians, doctors, psychiatrists, and other members of a client’s treatment team.

Benefit from the same results as traditional in-person therapy

Did you know research has shown that video therapy is just as effective as meeting with a therapist in person? Additionally, as technology improves, more and more Americans are interested in getting help for mental health struggles through video counseling. When you’re juggling multiple demands between work and family, online therapy can provide a wonderful solution to help you make room for your mental health and recovery even if it seems like there are none.

Video counseling makes it easier for anyone struggling with disordered eating and body shame to get the support they need. When you work with a skilled online eating disorder specialist like the ones at Kindful Body, you’ll be able to eliminate the travel cost and time of in-person therapy, and experience a greater level of comfort by being able to take the sessions from wherever makes you feel most at ease, such as from your bedroom or couch. If you still have questions about the experience of online therapy, I invite you to take a look at this blog post.

Working online together, our clients can begin a process that can deepen and enrich their lives, their relationships with others, and (more importantly) with themselves, no matter where they are.
